Intel or Ryzen? What Tesla's Last Two Updates Gave and Withheld, Feature by Feature
By EV Bandit | Updated October 11, 2026
Tesla's Halloween Mode is tagged for AMD Ryzen hardware only, and the sharper car graphics in update 2026.38 are tagged AMD plus HW3. Intel Atom cars got something different: Supercharger Site Maps. That is the split in Tesla's own release notes as republished by Not a Tesla App, and owners of older Model 3 and Model Y cars have noticed.
Checked October 11, 2026. Two software builds compared: 2026.38 and 2026.38.3. Hardware at issue: the infotainment computer (Intel Atom, called MCU 2, or AMD Ryzen, called MCU 3), not the self-driving computer. This page contains no product links on purpose. It is a reference.
The ledger
| Feature | Tagged hardware | Basis |
|---|---|---|
| Halloween Mode (2026.38.3) | AMD; New S, 3, New X, Y, Cybertruck | Release notes via Not a Tesla App |
| Visual Updates, higher-quality car images and park scene (2026.38) | AMD and HW3; Model 3, Model Y | Release notes; Tesla Oracle says Intel Atom cars have not received it |
| Supercharger Site Maps | Intel; Legacy S, 3, Legacy X, Y | Release notes: detailed view of select Superchargers, with live occupancy on arrival at pilot locations |
| Set Arrival Energy | No hardware tag; needs mobile app 4.58.0 or later | Release notes (the app feature itself is older than this build) |
| Security improvements | No hardware tag | Release notes |
Not a Tesla App's Oct. 9 report puts the Halloween gap bluntly: the feature "is not supported on older, Intel-based vehicles." It adds that "Tesla could have implemented a simpler, static alternative." That second line is the outlet's opinion, not a Tesla statement. Teslarati's launch coverage says shipping began October 6 and does not address Intel cars at all.
How to tell which computer you have
Not a Tesla App's explainer says to open Vehicle Options, then Software, then Additional Vehicle Information. It reports Intel Atom (MCU 2) cars ran from 2017 for the Model 3 through 2022, depending on region and model, and that AMD Ryzen (MCU 3) shipments began in December 2021. The same piece lists features it calls MCU 3 only, including the full-screen parked visualization, Photobooth, Sketchpad and Tron Mode.
What we could not confirm
- Whether Tesla plans to bring any Halloween Mode pieces to Intel cars. No statement found.
- Why Intel cars were excluded. Not a Tesla App argues some pieces look feasible on that hardware; that is an opinion.
- How many cars have each build. Tesla Oracle cites TeslaFi and Tessie data that fewer than 1% of the fleet had 2026.38 as of October 1. We have not checked those trackers ourselves.
- Release notes list one date, October 8, 2026, for 2026.38.3, with no per-feature rollout dates.
Questions owners are asking
Does this affect self-driving?
No. Hardware 3 and hardware 4 describe the driving computer. Intel versus AMD describes the touchscreen computer. They are separate parts.
Is my 2022 car Intel or AMD?
It depends on build date and region. Check the screen path above rather than guessing from the model year.
Did Intel cars get anything?
Yes. Supercharger Site Maps are tagged Intel only in the release notes, limited to select pilot sites.
