EV Bandit claims ledger on a native CarPlay demo running on a modified Tesla touchscreen

CarPlay Is Running Natively on a Tesla Screen. What the Demo Proves, What It Doesn't, and What Tesla Hasn't Said

By EV Bandit | Updated October 17, 2026

At a glance. Two developers have shown Apple CarPlay and an early AirPlay preview running as native apps on a Tesla touchscreen. Reports describe AMD Ryzen-based (MCU3) hardware and a modified software environment. Tesla has not announced CarPlay in anything we could find. Nobody has said whether other owners will be able to use it.
Key takeaways
  • Two developers have shown Apple CarPlay and an early AirPlay preview running as native apps on a Tesla touchscreen, with no dongle and no browser.
  • Reports describe AMD Ryzen-based (MCU3) hardware and a modified software environment.
  • Tesla has not announced CarPlay in anything we could find, and nobody has said whether other owners will be able to use it.
  • Not a Tesla App expects official CarPlay with this year's Holiday Update; autoevolution says the rumors went quiet and the project may have been dropped.
  • autoevolution alone reports that the demo relies on a known exploit that Tesla could patch.

Apple CarPlay is running in its own window on a Tesla's center screen, with Siri working through the car's microphones, according to demonstrations by the developer of the Tesla Android Project and a collaborator. It is a demo on modified software, not a Tesla feature, and the gap between those two things is the whole story.

Not a Tesla App reported the demo on October 14, and autoevolution followed on October 15 with a more cautious read. Their accounts agree on the basics and disagree on what it means. This page lays out which claims each source supports.

What was shown

Michał Gapiński, who runs the Tesla Android Project, and Maciej Wilczyński, his co-founder at CoilShift, built a native CarPlay app. Not a Tesla App says it opens in a window on the right of the screen with Tesla's vehicle controls on the left, and can expand to full screen. Siri works through the car's microphones, and audio is lossless, the reports say.

"No dongles, no browser. Bare metal, butter smooth." Michał Gapiński, as quoted by Not a Tesla App

An earlier version of the project, autoevolution notes, ran CarPlay inside Tesla's browser and needed a Raspberry Pi to relay internet traffic. The new version does neither. AirPlay is the second piece: select the Tesla screen as an external display from a Mac, iPhone or iPad. The preview currently shows black borders around the image.

The claims ledger

Claim Status Basis
CarPlay runs natively on a Tesla screen with Siri and lossless audio Demonstrated by the developers; not independently tested by either outlet Not a Tesla App, autoevolution (both rely on the developers' videos and posts)
Works without a dongle or the browser Reported Both outlets; Gapiński's own wording
Runs on AMD Ryzen / MCU3 hardware Reported; the two outlets use different names for what appears to be the same generation Not a Tesla App (Ryzen), autoevolution (MCU3)
Relies on a known exploit that Tesla could patch Reported by autoevolution only autoevolution; Not a Tesla App says only that it runs in a modified environment
AirPlay support was built from scratch Reported Wilczyński, as quoted by Not a Tesla App: "I've found no existing plumbing for it anywhere in the firmware."
Tesla is building official CarPlay Unconfirmed; the outlets disagree on whether the effort is alive Not a Tesla App cites earlier reports and expects it with this year's Holiday Update; autoevolution says the rumors went quiet and the project may have been dropped
Other owners will be able to install this Unknown Not a Tesla App: neither developer has said

What we could not confirm

We found no statement from Tesla or Apple about CarPlay in these reports. We could not independently test the software. We do not know pricing, a release date, which vehicles it would support, or whether Tesla could close the route it uses. The "Holiday Update" expectation is Not a Tesla App's forecast and autoevolution reads the same history the opposite way, so treat both as opinion.

For owners: a modified software environment on a car is a decision with consequences that only you and Tesla's terms can sort out. We are not recommending it, and we have not tried it.

Plain-language FAQ

Is CarPlay coming to Teslas? Unconfirmed. Tesla has not announced it in the sources we read.

Does my car qualify? The demo hardware is described as AMD Ryzen-based. For what separates Intel and Ryzen cars today, see our Intel vs Ryzen feature ledger.

Is this safe? Neither outlet tested that, and neither makes a safety claim. We don't either.

Frequently asked questions

Does Tesla support Apple CarPlay?

Not officially. Tesla has not announced CarPlay in the sources we read. The demo runs on modified software and is not a Tesla feature.

Who got CarPlay running natively on a Tesla screen?

Michał Gapiński, who runs the Tesla Android Project, and Maciej Wilczyński, his co-founder at CoilShift, built a native CarPlay app. Siri works through the car's microphones, and audio is lossless, the reports say.

Which Tesla hardware runs the CarPlay demo?

Reports describe AMD Ryzen-based (MCU3) hardware. Not a Tesla App calls it Ryzen and autoevolution calls it MCU3, which appears to be the same generation.

Will Tesla add CarPlay in the Holiday Update?

Unconfirmed. Not a Tesla App expects it with this year's Holiday Update, while autoevolution says the rumors went quiet and the project may have been dropped. Treat both as opinion.

Can I install the CarPlay app on my own Tesla?

Unknown. Neither developer has said whether other owners will be able to install it, and autoevolution reports that it relies on a known exploit that Tesla could patch.
