Tesla Opened Robotaxi in Fort Worth on Monday. Five Claims About the Launch, and Which Ones More Than One Outlet Supports
By EV Bandit | Updated November 3, 2026 | 5 min read
Tesla's Robotaxi account announced the launch the night before. According to Tesla North, the post read as follows, and Drive Tesla quotes the same line:
“Robotaxi available in Fort Worth starting tomorrow, 6am.” Tesla’s Robotaxi account on X, as quoted by Tesla North and Drive Tesla
That is the whole official announcement we could find quoted. Everything else below comes from reporters filling in the map, and they do not fill it in the same way. Here are five claims, sorted by how many outlets stand behind them.
Five claims, one table
| Claim | What each outlet says | Our read |
|---|---|---|
| Rides opened Monday, November 2, at 6 a.m. | Not a Tesla App: rides began that morning, 6 a.m. Central. Drive Tesla: public service began Monday at 6 a.m. Tesla North: opens Monday at 6 a.m., quoting Tesla’s post. | Supported by three outlets and Tesla’s post. |
| The rides have no safety monitor | Not a Tesla App: “fully unsupervised,” no human safety monitor, consistent with Tesla’s other Texas markets. Tesla North and Drive Tesla: each says it does not state whether there is a monitor. | One outlet. We do not repeat it as fact. |
| Fort Worth is Tesla’s “fourth Texas city” | Tesla North reports that Tesla describes it as its fourth Texas market after Austin, Dallas and Houston. Not a Tesla App instead calls it Tesla’s first new city in about three months and its seventh city with unsupervised rides. | Two different counts, not necessarily a contradiction. One counts Texas markets, the other counts cities nationwide. |
| The service area is about 143 square miles | Not a Tesla App gives 143 square miles centred on downtown, reaching White Settlement, Benbrook, Saginaw, Haltom City and Forest Hill. Tesla North describes a single geofence centred on downtown reaching toward Saginaw, past White Settlement and toward Benbrook, near Haltom City and Forest Hill. Drive Tesla says it does not give the area or a map. | The shape agrees between two outlets. The 143 figure rests on one. |
| Hours are 6 a.m. to 2 a.m. | Tesla North and Drive Tesla: Tesla extended Robotaxi hours last week to 6 a.m.–2 a.m., about 20 hours a day, and neither says it applies to Fort Worth. Not a Tesla App gives only the 6 a.m. start for Fort Worth and ties the 2 a.m. hours to Austin. | Unconfirmed for Fort Worth. |
What nobody has said yet
- Price. Not Tesla North, Drive Tesla or Not a Tesla App states a fare for Fort Worth.
- Fleet size in the city. All three say the number of cars assigned to Fort Worth is not given.
- The free first ride. Not a Tesla App notes the offer has been seen in Houston and Dallas and suggests Fort Worth might get it too, without confirmation. Tesla North and Drive Tesla list it as unknown.
- Cybercab. Not a Tesla App says Fort Worth starts with Model Y robotaxis and flags any Cybercab timing as speculation.
The statewide picture, as one outlet counts it
For scale, Tesla North cites a recent tally of 1,204 Texas Robotaxi vehicles, made up of 631 Model Ys and 573 Cybercabs, against 1,259 registered Waymo vehicles in the state. We reported a different registry count of 1,051 vehicles when we looked on October 28 in our registry piece, so treat any single total as a snapshot from one date. Last week’s Houston growth was just as messy; see three outlets, three sets of numbers.
What this means for Model Y owners
Nothing changes for your own car. The Fort Worth fleet starts with Model Ys, which is the same body you may be driving, but Tesla has not said that owner cars can join. We answered that question using only Tesla’s own statements in this owner Q&A. If you live in the Fort Worth area, the useful habit is to treat launch-day details as provisional: the geofence, hours and pricing are exactly the things that moved in Houston and Austin after launch.
- Look for the quoted Tesla post. If an article does not link or quote it, the details may be inference.
- Check whether a claim such as “unsupervised” is attributed to a Tesla statement or only asserted.
- Compare map descriptions across two outlets before trusting a square-mile figure.
