Update 2026.38 Redraws Your Tesla on the Center Screen. Protect the Glass It's Drawn On
By EV Bandit | Updated October 6, 2026
Update 2026.38 gives older Model 3 and Model Y cars a sharper picture of themselves on the center display, and it is rolling out now. Whatever is drawn on the screen, the screen itself is the part of the car you touch hundreds of times a month.
According to the release notes tracked by Not a Tesla App, the update began rolling out September 30, and the visual change reads: “The center display now features higher quality images of your Tesla, and an enhanced park scene environment.”

What is in 2026.38, and who gets it
The update bundles four items: the visual refresh, Supercharger site maps, a headlight-leveling item, and security fixes. Tesla North says the visuals are for legacy Model 3 and Model Y cars with AMD chips; Drive Tesla Canada lists the visual item under Model 3 with the AI3 chip and says less than 1% of the fleet had it in early October. Expect a slow trickle, not a switch.
Site maps are the other owner-facing change; we covered what to pack for that stop in our Supercharger 85,000 stalls piece.
What this means for owners
A nicer graphic makes a screen protector a more reasonable purchase, not a necessary one. Here is the honest version: the update changes the picture, not the glass. But if you are going to look at an enhanced park scene every time you back out, a clean, glare-controlled panel is part of the same upgrade.
One fitment trap first. Tesla’s new MY27 cars in North America have a larger 16-inch screen, which Not a Tesla App reported on October 2; we broke that down in our MY27 accessory guide. The three protectors below are for the older, smaller panel. Do not order them for a 16-inch car.
The three protectors, side by side
| Product | Price | Stated fitment | Notes |
|---|---|---|---|
| Tempered Glass Screen Protector (9H) | $27.99 | Model 3/Y, 2017-2023 | Lowest price; the narrowest year range. |
| Tempered Glass Screen Protector | $39.99 | Model 3 & Y | No year range in the listing, so confirm your screen size first. |
| Moshi iVisor Screen Protector (Clear Cover) | $39.99 | Model 3/Y, 2018-2026, 15-inch screen | Washable and reappliable. The matte anti-glare cut is not currently orderable; we link the clear cover. |
1. The budget glass

The 9H tempered glass protector is the cheapest route and it names its years plainly. If you drive a 2017-2023 car and want glass, this is the straightforward pick.
2. The one that skips the year range

The Tempered Glass Screen Protector for Model 3 & Y costs $12 more than the budget glass for the same basic job. The listing does not state years, which is the reason to double-check that your screen is the 15-inch type before you buy.

3. The film you can reapply

The Moshi iVisor protector is a film rather than glass, and the listing calls it bubble-free, washable and reappliable. It is listed for 2018-2026 cars with the 15-inch screen. We link the Clear Cover; the matte option, which fights glare, is not orderable right now.
4. Hold the phone, not the screen

If your fingerprints are the real enemy of the display, the 3Y Cradle-Free Phone Mount keeps a phone off the glass and works across the lineup, including Cybertruck. It solves a different job than a protector, and we sell it as that.
