Tesla V2L Reaches Every U.S. Model 3 and Model Y. Most Camp Gear Still Needs No Outlet
By EV Bandit | Updated October 7, 2026
Tesla has widened vehicle-to-load power to the U.S. Model 3 and Model Y lineup, according to Drive Tesla. The report says V2L now covers all U.S. trims, after being limited to Model Y Premium, and that it runs through Tesla’s Outlet Adapter at “up to 2.4 kW at 120 volts and 20 amps.”
The same day, Electrek reported a related but separate launch: Powershare Home Backup for new Model 3 and Model Y with a Powerwall 3. We cover that one in our blackout-kit guide. This piece is about the plug-in-at-the-campsite side.
“powering a campsite, running tools at a remote worksite, or keeping small, essential devices online”
Not a Tesla App, describing what V2L is for
One caution before you shop: the V2L expansion is reported by Drive Tesla alone so far, and the 2.4 kW figure is a ceiling, not a promise for every car. Tesla’s own screen will tell you. Per the same report, check Controls > Software > Additional Vehicle Information for the Powershare line on your car. We do not stock the Outlet Adapter, so buy that from Tesla.
What changed, what it means, what to do
What changed: more cars can now push household-style power out of the battery. What it means: a campsite stops being a battery-management exercise. What to do: decide which gear actually needs a plug, because most of the good camp kit does not.
| Gear | Power it needs | Needs V2L? |
|---|---|---|
| Portable espresso machine | None. Manual piston; you add hot water | No |
| Pour-over filter | None. Hot water only | No |
| Portable outdoor shower | Battery-powered pump, per the listing | No |
| Folding camp table | None | No |
| Induction hob, space heater, power tools | Hundreds to thousands of watts | Yes, and check the 2.4 kW ceiling |
1. Coffee that does not care about your power budget

The listing is blunt: “No battery/electricity Manual operation only.” You still need hot water, which is where a V2L outlet and a kettle can help. The espresso machine itself will never ask the car for a watt.
Shop the Portable Espresso Machine

The pour-over filter and the espresso machine do the same job at different price points and different strengths. Pick one. Do not buy both because the article put them next to each other.
2. A table and a shower, neither of which plugs in

It weighs 2.6 lbs according to the listing and packs flat. It is the thing that turns a tailgate into a kitchen.

It runs on its own rechargeable battery, so it is a good example of the article’s point: V2L is optional for most of this list.
What this means for owners
Treat V2L as a bonus, not a plan. Set a reserve so you can still drive home (Not a Tesla App notes the “Reserve for Driving” limit), and build the kit around gear that works without it. Our earlier Camp Mode and V2L setup and Starlink camping kit guides cover the rest.
