Tesla Posted Its First Vietnam Jobs and Says It Is 'Officially Coming.' What Is Confirmed, What Is Not, and What Thailand and the Philippines Suggest
By EV Bandit | Updated October 29, 2026 | 6 min read
- A Tesla Asia Pacific recruiter wrote on X that Tesla is “officially coming to Vietnam – and we’re hiring,” per Electrek, Drive Tesla and Tesla North.
- Five roles are posted: sales manager, service manager, HR business partner, purchasing manager and a charging project developer.
- Tesla Motors Vietnam LLC was registered in Ho Chi Minh City on September 11, 2026, with about $3 million in charter capital.
- No models, prices, launch date or store locations have been announced.
- VinFast held roughly 36% of Vietnam’s market in the first nine months of 2026, per Electrek.
Tesla is going to Vietnam, and this time the company’s own recruiter is saying so. Three outlets reported on October 28 that Tesla has posted its first five job listings for the country, weeks after registering a local subsidiary in Ho Chi Minh City.
What nobody has reported is a single product detail. Electrek notes that the recruiting graphic shows a next-generation Roadster, with fine print saying it is “for illustration purposes only.” It is a hiring signal, not a model announcement.

What is confirmed
Every item below appears in at least two of the three outlets named, and the hiring post comes from Tesla staff, not from a rumor mill.
| Item | What was reported | Where |
|---|---|---|
| Subsidiary | Tesla Motors Vietnam LLC, registered September 11, 2026 in Ho Chi Minh City | Electrek, Drive Tesla, Tesla North |
| Capital | About 77.7 billion dong, roughly $3 million | Electrek, Drive Tesla |
| Registered activities | Vehicle sales, parts distribution, imports and exports. Drive Tesla notes no manufacturing or assembly has been announced | Electrek, Drive Tesla |
| Open roles | Sales manager, service manager, HR business partner, purchasing manager, charging project developer | All three |
| Charging role | Finds sites, negotiates with property owners and assesses utility connections and permitting, per Drive Tesla; Tesla North says host deals “for Tesla charging products” | Drive Tesla, Tesla North |
Electrek reads the charging post as a sign that Tesla plans to build Superchargers in Vietnam. That is the outlet’s inference from a job title; Tesla has said nothing about a charging network there.
The market Tesla is walking into
Vietnam has a home-grown giant. Electrek reports that VinFast delivered 177,697 cars in Vietnam in the first nine months of 2026, out of roughly 495,000 total, about 36% of the market and 37.7% in September alone. The next five brands combined (Toyota, Hyundai, Mitsubishi, Ford and Kia) delivered 175,136, less than VinFast by itself, and the VF 3 is the country’s best-selling vehicle so far this year.
| Measure | Figure | Source and caveat |
|---|---|---|
| VinFast deliveries, Jan–Sep 2026 | 177,697 of about 495,000 (about 36%) | Electrek |
| VinFast share, September | 37.7% | Electrek |
| VinFast share, August | 42% (20,161 of 48,484 vehicles) | Drive Tesla, citing TechNode Global. A different month and source from Electrek’s, so the 36% and 42% do not conflict, but we have not seen the underlying data |
| Registration fee exemption for battery-electric cars | Extended through 2030, including imports | Electrek |
Electrek adds that Tesla would likely import from Giga Shanghai while VinFast builds locally in Haiphong, and that passenger cars remain on a high-tariff list under the ASEAN-China free trade agreement. Those are the outlet’s own expectations. Tesla has not said where cars would come from.
What earlier launches suggest
Electrek offers two precedents. In Thailand, Tesla hired in September 2022 and opened orders about three months later. In the Philippines, hiring began in September 2024 and the launch followed in early 2025.
| Country | Hiring began | Launch milestone |
|---|---|---|
| Thailand | September 2022 | Orders opened about three months later |
| Philippines | September 2024 | Launch in early 2025 |
| Vietnam | Registered September 11, 2026; first jobs posted October 28, 2026 | Not announced |
Two data points are a pattern worth watching, not a schedule. We are not predicting a Vietnam date, and neither has Tesla.
What we do not know
- Which models Tesla will sell and at what price.
- Whether cars will be imported from China, as Electrek expects, or from elsewhere.
- Where showrooms, service centers or chargers will go. The listings name Vietnam but no city, per Tesla North.
- When orders open.
What this means for owners
For a Model Y or Model 3 owner in the U.S. or Canada, nothing changes today. The story matters as a read on where Tesla is putting people and money: a country where a local brand holds more than a third of sales and runs a charging network of its own. Electrek reports that VinFast’s sister company V-Green plans about $380 million for 99 ultra-fast stations, so the charging gap Tesla would need to fill is not empty ground.
If you follow Tesla’s charging build-out, our Supercharger Q3 ledger shows how differently outlets count the same network.
