The Model Y L Beat Its Own Range Estimate — Now Deal With the Cargo Space
Tesla lowballed itself. When the Model Y L opened for order in North America, the spec sheet said 325 miles on the 19-inch wheels. The EPA came back and certified it at 332.
Seven miles Tesla didn't claim. On the 20-inch Uberhelix wheels it's the same story — Tesla estimated 320, the EPA certified 328. Which makes the longest, heaviest, six-seat Model Y the longest-range Model Y you can buy in the United States, ahead of the standard Premium AWD's 327 miles on the same 19-inch wheel.
That's a genuinely good result and it deserves the headline. But here's the part nobody puts on a spec sheet: none of it helps you at 6pm on a Thursday with four grocery bags rolling around a bare plastic trunk floor.
The number Tesla undersold
The Model Y L is the stretched, three-row, six-seat Model Y. The reason it matters isn't the seat count — it's that the third row is finally usable. Reviewers at Cars.com and Motor1 put the L's third-row legroom roughly five inches ahead of the standard car's — the difference between a jump seat and a seat.
The efficiency gain came from bodywork, not battery chemistry: aero refinement and a rear spoiler moulded into the shell rather than bolted on. Tesla engineered its way to extra miles and then quoted itself conservatively.
Physics still applies to the rest of it. Put three rows of people in any SUV and the space behind the last row gets tight. Fold everything flat and you have a cave with nothing to stop your cargo sliding into the far corner. That problem is identical in a Model Y L, a Juniper, a Highland, a Model S and a Model X — and it is a solved problem for less money than a single Supercharger stop on a road trip.

1. The $10.99 part that stops your trunk becoming a landfill
Every Model Y and Model 3 has two dead side cavities in the rear trunk that swallow small items and never give them back. A pair of rear trunk side dividers turns them into shelves.
This is the cheapest meaningful upgrade on this page and the fitment list is unusually complete. The Model Y Juniper 2025-ON two-piece set is $10.99 with 312 sets on the shelf; Model 3 Highland 2024-ON is the same price with 520; Model Y 2020-2024 is $10.99 with 392. And yes — there's a Model YL 2026+ two-piece cut at $19.99. If you have a delivery date on a Model Y L, this is one of the first parts in the catalogue that was actually made for your car rather than adapted to it. It's on backorder rather than sitting on the shelf, so order it expecting a wait.
2. Hooks: the highest return per dollar in the entire car
A bag that hangs doesn't tip. The Model Y / Model 3 seat hooks clip to the front seat posts and take purses, takeaway bags and backpacks off the floor. Ten of each version in stock.
In the trunk itself, the Model 3 trunk grocery bag hook does the same job for the boot. Model S owners get their own version — a set of trunk hooks for the 2021-2026 Model S, $14.95 for two or $19.95 for four, four of each in stock.
3. The trunk well and the space under your back seat
The Model Y trunk organizer storage box is the step up from a divider: a fitted side tray with pockets, for the charging cable, the tyre kit and everything else that currently lives loose.
Underneath the rear bench there's a slot most owners never open. Lidded under-seat boxes turn it into hidden storage — useful precisely because it's out of sight from the windows. Eight two-packs, four singles and two three-packs on hand.
4. Your frunk is an insulated cooler you aren't using
The front trunk is the most under-used cubic foot in any Tesla. The frunk storage organizer with cooler bag squares off the space and gives you a cold section for the drive home from the shops. It's the sensible middle option.
If you want the frunk properly built out, the Model Y frunk cooler organizer is the heavier option — eight of the $159.99 pair and three of the $169.99 fully insulated version in stock. It is real money against a $94.99 alternative, and worth it only if you actually shop or camp out of the car. If you don't, buy the cheaper one.
5. Line it before you load it
Organizers only help if the surface underneath survives. The waterproof all-weather trunk liner comes in two cuts — 2025-2026+ for Juniper cars and 2019-2024 for the previous generation — and doubles as a dog-proof surface. Pick the cut that matches your build year, not the one that looks cheaper, because they're the same price.
6. Three rows means three rows of mess
Tesla owners have been running three rows in the Model X for years, and the lesson is consistent: the mess scales with the seat count. The Model X 6/7-seater TPE set covers floors, the rear cargo area and the under-storage well in one go. Ten seven-seat full sets and nine rear cargo liners in stock.
To be explicit: this is a Model X part. It will not fit a Model Y L. Model Y L-specific cargo tooling is only starting to appear — the trunk divider in section 1 is the first cut we carry. We'll add more as manufacturers release it rather than sell you a Model Y part with the fitment filed off.

7. You can't pack what you can't see
Juniper Model Ys leave the factory with no light in the frunk at all. The Juniper frunk LED light strip fixes it. The orderable 2025-2026 Juniper option is the cool-white frunk kit at $99.99 with 22 in stock; the warm-white version of that same cut is currently unavailable, so order the cool one or wait. The 2020-2024 Model Y cuts — frunk or trunk, cool or warm — are $79.99 with ten of each.

Tesla found seven miles in the bodywork and didn't take credit for them. Good engineering, quietly done.
You are not going to find seven miles in your trunk. What you'll find is thirty seconds a day, every day, not chasing a rolling water bottle — for about eleven dollars.
