Tesla's $145 Pet Liner Skips the Model Y L — Here's What Actually Fits Your Back Seat
On August 27, Tesla dropped nine products into its online shop under a Dog Mode banner — two dog accessories, four kids' items, a plush toy, and two vehicle pet liners. The feature itself was renamed Pet Mode a while back, but the merchandise still leans on the name everyone actually uses.
The headline items are the liners. Both run $145. Both use a three-piece layout: a water-resistant hammock-style liner plus two door protectors. One is cut for the Cybertruck's second row. The other covers Model S, Model 3 and Model Y — except, per Tesla's own fitment, the six-seat Model Y L.
Two things worth noticing: Tesla just validated a category the aftermarket has served for years, and it did so at $145 with a fitment hole in its newest, most family-focused Model Y. The $35 Dog Mode plushie, incidentally, isn't sold in Pennsylvania, Massachusetts, or Ohio.

1. The volume pick — waterproof, S/3/X/Y, from $69.99
This is the one most people should start with. It's fully waterproof, it covers the rear bench, and its listed fitment spans all four Tesla models — Model S, 3, X and Y. At from $69.99 it undercuts Tesla's $145 liner by a wide margin, and it's the deepest-stocked item in the category on our shelves.
What you don't get versus the OEM kit: Tesla's three-piece bundle includes two separate door protectors. This is a seat cover. If door panels are your problem — and with a big dog they will be — plan on that separately.

2. The cheapest thing that still holds water — from $40.99
Not every dog rides every day. If yours is an every-other-weekend passenger, spending $145 to protect against that is hard to justify. This one is from $40.99, still rated 100% waterproof, and still cut for the Model S, X, 3 and Y back seat.
Buy this, keep it folded in the frunk, and deploy it when the dog gets in. That's the whole strategy, and it works.

3. Quilted fleece hammock, for dogs who actually sleep — from $149.99
Tesla's liner uses a hammock cut, and there's a reason: it walls off the footwell, which stops a dog sliding into it under braking and stops hair colonising the carpet. This is our closest analogue — from $149.99, quilted fleece, waterproof, breathable and scratchproof, with hammock geometry.
It's the comfort pick rather than the value pick. If your dog sleeps the whole drive, fleece over bare polyester is a real upgrade. Listed fitment is Model Y, Model 3 and Model S.

4. The step-down cover for big dogs — from $120
Pure hammocks have one flaw: a big dog standing on a suspended sheet has nowhere stable to brace. The step-down design solves it by dropping a section into the footwell, giving a Shepherd or a Lab an actual floor.
From $120, listed for Model 3, Model S and Model Y. Nine left, so it's not the one to sit on if it's what you need.

5. Cybertruck gets its own cut — from $129.99
Tesla priced its Cybertruck pet liner at the same $145 as the car-shaped one. Ours is from $129.99 and widened for the Cybertruck's second row, listed for 2024–2025 trucks.
This is the section where fitment genuinely matters. The Cybertruck's rear bench is wider than anything in the Model 3/Y family. A cover cut for a Model Y will leave the outboard edges exposed. Buy the truck-specific one.

6. Juniper and Highland owners — the ice silk three-piece, from $89.99
If you're in a 2026 Model Y Juniper or a 2024–2026 Model 3 Highland, this is the one cut for your cabin. Three pieces, black ice silk, from $89.99.
It's a protector mat rather than a full pet hammock — better suited to shedding, muddy paws and general everyday grime than to a dog that treats the back seat like a trampoline. For heavy-duty pet duty in a Juniper, the S/3/X/Y waterproof cover in section 1 is the more robust choice.

7. Finish the job at floor level — Juniper-specific mats, $218.99
A seat cover stops hair and claws. It does nothing about the wet paw prints that go straight onto the carpet on the way in. All-weather floor liners close that gap, and they hose off in a driveway.

Two honest notes. First, that is real money next to a $40 seat cover, and it should be: this is a precision-moulded tray, not a mat you trim to fit. Second, the same listing carries 2021–2025 five- and seven-seat Model Y fitments and single pieces — frunk, sub-trunk, cargo liner — from $70.99, so pick your exact year and layout from the dropdown before you check out. The short version
Tesla entering a category is usually good news for owners — it means the problem is real and the fix is now mainstream. It rarely means the OEM part is the best value. At $145 for a three-piece liner with a stated gap around the six-seat Model Y L, there is a lot of room underneath it.
Start at $69.99 for most Teslas. Go to $40.99 if the dog rides occasionally. Step up to fleece or step-down geometry if the dog is big or sleeps. Buy truck-specific for a Cybertruck. And check the year on your Model Y before you order anything — Juniper changed enough that 2021–2025 parts are not a safe assumption.
